Before going over the auction results, let’s look at this month’s “Ask Andy” segment, along with some market trends for October and November.
In October, the used agricultural equipment market continued to reflect fluctuating values, driven by a mix of sustained oversupply and regional demand shifts. Row crop tractors saw some stabilization, though larger models like John Deere’s 8R series still faced pressure due to oversupply, with prices declining by around 15% in most regions. Smaller row crop models experienced a slight recovery, suggesting that demand for mid-range and versatile tractors is starting to pick up as farmers prepare for upcoming planting seasons.
Combines and other harvesting equipment continued their downward price trend, with the Case IH 8250 and John Deere S780 experiencing further declines as auction inventories remained high. In contrast, John Deere’s S790 and X9 1100 held relatively steady, indicating that high-end, newer models are somewhat insulated from the oversupply impacting older units. Class 7 and 8 combines, however, continued to lose value, particularly in regions where harvest activity was delayed, which further dampened demand.
Sprayers displayed a mixed performance, with self-propelled models seeing slight price stability due to increased demand for mid-size units, especially in regions with active off-season crop maintenance needs. Overall, the auction results from October underscore the ongoing need for dealers and farmers to strategically evaluate their buying and selling decisions, as the market continues to adjust to seasonal demand fluctuations and inventory levels.
